SUMTER

Keith & "T" solving world problems as Allen looks on.
Pumped out waste tank and took on 100 gallons of
diesel fuel as preparations were made to leave Columbus Marina.
Aug. 11, 2012---Two locks today: Stennis and Bevill each lowered Dream Manor about 30 feet. Went 65 miles down the Tombigbee in 8.8 hours. Turned to starboard at mile 270 and entered a well protected embayment at Sumter Recreation Area. Dropped anchor before the boat ramp. Enjoyed a peaceful evening.
Montgomery and Visitors Center seen from
the water just above Bevill Lock.

Bevill Lock at mile 306.8
Waited a short time as a tow moved
slowly out of the lock.

Dredging operation taking place at
mile 304 just down from the lock.

Dredging is necessary to keep the channel
deep enough for commercial traffic.

Interesting tow. Three large vessels
of some kind.

Sun sets on a quiet embayment.
Sailboat not far away can be seen
in the shadows.
