"BB" gazes into the swimming pool as we
prepare to leave Joe Wheeler State Park Marina.
"BB" says it must be too early. Where are all
the swimmers?
Aug. 5, 2012---Traveled 20.8 miles in 2.9 hours to Florence Marina. Two locks today. Joe Wheeler Lock at mile 274.9 lowered Dream Manor 48'. Wilson lock at mile 259.4 was a down lift of 93'. It is the highest single lift lock east of the Rocky Mountains. The Wilson Dam is 137' high and stretches 4541' across the Tennessee River. Cost of the dam was nearly 47 million. Construction began in 1918 and was completed in 1924. The dam predates TVA, but was later put under their authority.
Flock of Anhinga taking flight.
After the brief storm passed, all is
quiet at Florence Marina, mile 256.2
on Tennessee River.
